Seraya Island .... an idyllic finale to our
Flores overland tour and a must for adventurous travellers who enjoy getting
away from all of the hustle and bustle – there isn’t too much to do on Seraya,
except relax, rejuvenate and of course - make a lot of photos!
We pre-organised direct passage to Seraya after an amazing day-trip to Komodo & Rinca islands to see the renowned Komodo dragons, what an experience!
We arrived on Seraya to discover a lovely island
paradise in a calm bay with very basic bungalows on the white sandy beach, each
with a verandah overlooking the quietly lapping turquoise water.
The snorkelling was amazing with exceptionally clear water and all manner of underwater life such as starfish, barracuda, stingray, clown fish, colourful coral, lobster, shark, turtles and much, much more to be seen.
Each day we enjoyed exploring and photographing from the surrounding hills which provided spectacular views, especially at sunrise and sunset. Climbing the hill behind the beach bungalows provided magnificent 360degree views – well worth the short climb. On another day we walked approx. 20 minutes eastward to the small and colourful fishing village.
We saw plenty of birds to photograph too - Kingfishers, Bee eaters, Cardinals, Finches, Honeyeaters, Beachknee Curlews, Herons and Birds of prey.
Here are some of Noel's awesome underwater photos. He used an EWA-Marine underwater bag, not as convenient as underwater casing, however it's given him the opportunity to capture some of the beauty to be seen underwater.
